County owned buildings (2D and 3D models)

May 10, 2013 – added the 2D building outlines

Models of County owned buildings in three formats (shape, multipatch, and KML).  These buildings were created for the LA County Solar Map and were used for high resolution modeling of solar potential

Downtown Area

for each building.

Aerial imagery from the Los Angeles Regional Imagery Acquisition Consortium (LAR-IAC2) was processed by CH2MHill (now Critigen) to create these models.

The file names are original, and do not correlate to underlying information such as parcel number or building name.  A correspondence table for these models has been created in Excel.  Please download the 3D Building Correspondence List (Excel File).  This table contains the file name and the related LA County Building names.

The shapefile contains all of the building models in one file – it is seamless.  The KML and Multipatch remain in their original delivery format.

Data Field Descriptions

The values below represent the fields in the shapefile.  The KML files have a generic attribute from the software used to create them and should be ignored.

  • Code - processing code number related to the file name
  • Link - the same as the file name
  • Model - the model name
  • X - Center Point X coordinate of the building model
  • Y - Center Point Y coordinate of the building model
  • AIN - the parcel the building sits on
  • Utility_id - the Utility ID for use in the Solar Map
  • Total - Total number of 25 square foot cells for the roof area for the Solar Map
  • Rank1 - Number of 25 square foot cells with best rank (1) for solar for the Solar Map
  • Rank2 - Number of 25 square foot cells with rank (2) for solar for the Solar Map
  • Rank3 - Number of 25 square foot cells with rank (3) for solar for the Solar Map
  • Rank4 - Number of 25 square foot cells with rank (4) for solar for the Solar Map
  • Dept - Department responsible for the building (from CEO BDR system)
  • Building - Building Type (from CEO BDR system)
  • Detail - Building description detail (from CEO BDR system)
  • Source - Table that was the source identifying this building as county owned (from CEO BDR system)
  • Label - Used to Label the building (generally the same as the detail field).
