This layer contains Legal City boundaries (as opposed to Postal City) within L.A. County. The boundaries will not line up with the Thomas Brothers city layer.

Registrar Recorder Precincts

Updated as of December 2012

Contains precincts from the Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder’s Office. The Registrar/Recorder uses these precincts to run elections by grouping them into election precincts, so they capture the boundaries of all voting districts in the County, including, but not limited to:

LA County Supervisorial Districts
US Congressional Districts
State Senate and Assembly Districts
Schools Districts
Water and Waste Districts
And others.

Polling Places – November 6, 2012 election

Polling locations assigned for the November 6, 2012 Presidential election as of October 31, 2012. Note – these polling locations are subject to change. Changes occur when polling locations become unavailable at the last minute, or for a variety or reasons.

The Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder establishes polling locations for each election. Each election has a unique set of polling locations. These polling locations are not applicable for future elections.

LA City Council Districts (2012)

LA City Council Districts as adopted by Final Ordinance 2012 No. 182168. This data was provided by the City of Los Angeles.

These boundaries are legally accurate as specified by the Los Angeles City Bureau of Engineering.

LA City Planning GIS Data Portal

The City of Los Angeles Planning department has launched a GIS Data Portal for downloading various GIS data files pertaining to City Planning information.

You can access the data by going to http://planning.lacity.org, selecting the Maps and Stats button on the left, then selecting the LADCP GIS Data. page.

I will also add this link to our LA County GIS Data Portal, (http://gis.lacounty.gov/dataportal), which contains links to County and other data like this.

US Congressional Districts (2011)

Congressional (2011)

2011 United States Congressional Districts clipped to the LA County Boundary.

This data was created by the California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission, and downloaded from their website. Click here to go to the site.

This data is based upon the US Census Bureau’s TIGER basemap, and are not the final version for the County. The TIGER file, while it represents physical features in the County accurately, does not have the same spatial accuracy as the County’s mapping layers. The Registrar/Recorder County Clerk is currently updating their precincts to include these new districts, and with the same precision as the County base.

However, the County has tested and found the Census Bureau’s data to substantially accurate for even large-scale mapping, so future changes will not dramatically impact mapping, but I do recommend coming back to this page to check for updates.

Approved Boundaries

This GIS data file contains 2011 County Board of Supervisors district boundaries adopted September 27, 2011.

For full details of the process , please see this site: http://redistricting.lacounty.gov/. The 2011-Board-Adopted-Plan (pdf file) is loaded here for your convenience.

These boundaries are based upon Redistricting Units (RDUs) which in turn originated from the 2010 Census TIGER file – they are accurate to the Census Bureau. I anticipate that in the future, County departments (including the Registrar/Recorder) will be enhancing the spatial accuracy of this set of boundaries to more accurately follow legal city Boundaries and physical features that are represented in other County GIS data.

Redistricting_units_2011 (zipped shapefile) - includes information about the 2010 Census Tract, City,Community, 2001 district, and 2011 district. This was dissolved to create the 2011 Supervisorial Districts.

Supervisorial Districts (2001)

Supervisorial Districts as of the 2001 redistricting. These boundaries were approved by the County Board of Supervisors in 2001, and represent the boundaries of their political jurisdictions and those areas that vote for them.

Note:

The 2001 Supervisorial Districts will be superseded by the 2011 Supervisorial Districts which become effective on October 27, 2011. After that date the 2001 Supervisorial Districts will be obsolete.
