With less than a month remaining before our GIS Day event, the planning is coming together nicely and it is time to publicize, publicize, publicize. Please blog, submit articles to your internal publications, announce at meetings and post flyers. Do this early and often, especially since I’ve just learned that our submission to the County Digest was inadvertently omitted.
Below are links to the publicity materials we have developed, as well as the official GIS Day logo in a few different file types. Please feel free to tweak and use these as appropriate. There are many additional materials available at the GIS Day web site, too, and I encourage you to look at their stuff for ideas and language you might want to use.

So far, we have identified these showcases:
* Assessor’s Office
* Beaches and Harbors
* Child Care
* CIO’s Office
* Health Services/Community Health Plan
* Health Services/Emergency Medical Services
* ISD/Urban Research
* LAR-IAC (Regional Planning and CIO)
* Mental Health
* Parks & Recreation
* Public Social Services
* Public Works
* Regional Planning
* Registrar Recorder/County Clerk
* Sheriff’s Department
We have many more stations available, so please consider representing your agency or section. In addition to or in lieu of showcasing, we strongly encourage you to exhibit maps or other GIS-related displays in our map gallery. Similar to the ESRI conference map gallery, we will set up as many panels as we need to display maps, posters and educational materials.
A few vendors have been invited to participate, as have Rio Hondo College and LAUSD. These exhibitors will help our attendees understand where the technology is moving and, perhaps, spark new ideas on how they themselves could make better use of what we offer today.
Date: November 19
Location: Civic Center Mall, adjacent to the Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles
500 W. Temple St.
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Time: 10 am – 2:30 pm (Note the new time)
We will have either one large canopy, which can hold up to 25 tables or separate “taco stand” booths for the participating departments. Each station will have a 3′ X 6′ table, two chairs and power. I can also arrange for easels, if people want to display things at their stations. We will have our map gallery as well and, perhaps, as many as three GIS-equipped vehicles on display. We are planning an activity or game for attendees, too.
