LA County GIS Viewer Upgrade – April 26, 2014

This in an important announcement regarding a number of GIS applications maintained by the County of Los Angeles.

On Saturday, April 26th, 2014, the Enterprise GIS Group will be upgrading all of the Geocortex GIS Viewers to the newest version.  Geocortex Essentials 4 is a major new release of this software, and forms the foundation for the next generation of web-enabled GIS technologies.  To learn more details, click here to read the Latitude Press release.

What will you see on Monday?

  • User Interface changes – the user interface has a clean, modern look.  This is the biggest change that you will notice.  See the pictures below that highlight the changes.
  • Batch Geocoding fixes – Latitude has resolved issues around address reject handling.  If you haven’t used this tool to plot addresses on the map, click here to review the earlier release.
  • Speed enhancements – Searching for parcel numbers and features is over 50% faster.

 Version 4Version 4

What will you see in the next few weeks?

  • New tools – the HTML5/mobile viewers now include measurement tools, markup editing, and a basemap switcher.  Bookmarks are also available and you may see those in the next few weeks.
  • Charting – this is a major new capability that we have eagerly waited for.  Charts associated with maps can help users better visualize patterns and gain better insights to support decision making.
  • Instant search – this is one of the biggest enhancements to the Geocortex platform.  A highly scalable and extremely fast indexed search engine will see your searches for parcels and features become faster and more intuitive (think Google searches that have auto-complete).  We will be implementing this in the next few weeks and will send a notice when it has been deployed.
  • Enhanced security – we will be able to let users register with their Google+, Facebook, and other credential sources, enabling us to better tailor our viewers to each user.
