Trunk Sewers vs Sanitary Sewers

The CSMD maintains sanitary, or collection sewers that most resident and commercial lateral lines drain into. They typically have a diameter of 8″ and are usually constructed of vitrified clay pipe.

Trunk sewers are much larger, constructed of reinforced concrete, and carry sewage from sanitary sewer outflows to waste water reclamation plants. GIS data representing trunk sewers should be obtained from the agencies who maintain them:

Shapefiles Included in this Download:

Sewer_Pipe – Identifies sanitary sewers (gravity sewers, siphons and force mains) maintained by the CSMD.

Sewer_Manhole – Identifies sanitary sewer maintenance holes maintained by the CSMD.

Operation_Map_Grid – Identifies areas within Operations Maps used by CSMD field crews.

Non_SMD_Pipe – Used to identify nearby private and city sanitary sewers that CSMD field crews do not maintain.

Non_SMD_Manhole – Used to identify nearby private and city sanitary sewer structures that CSMD field crews do not maintain.

Sewer_Pump_Station – Identifies sanitary sewer lift stations maintained by the Los Angeles County Sewer Maintenance Districts.

WWTP – Locations of small package waste water treatment plants maintained by the Los Angeles County Sewer Maintenance Districts.

    Hello Bernarda,

Via one of the hyperlinks provided in this post (Los Angeles County Sewer Maintenance Home Page), you can use an online mapping application where you can enter in your address and see all of the sewer related data. Here is the webpage for that mapping site: http://dpw.lacounty.gov/smd/sewernetwork/. Otherwise, you can contact DPW via that home page I referenced.

    Thanks,
    Dan
