ESRI Releases ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 5

OK – so we are up to SP5 with ArcGIS.

ESRI’s announcement

I have read through the announcement, and there are no compelling reasons to upgrade, except for this one on the server side:

I am especially interested in this one line: NIM010667 – Setting the ArcSDE server configuration TCPKEEPALIVE parameter to true does not terminate orphaned gsrvr processes as it should.

We ran into this problem, and to date we restart our SDE server every morning at 6am in order to resolve this issue. I had brought this up with ESRI about a year ago, and it looks like they fixed it.

Please note: The Enterprise GIS Repository SDE and ArcIMS software is currently at Service Pack 3, while our ArcGIS Server installations are at Service Pack 4. As a policy I try not to upgrade often, since it requires shutting our entire system down because we use direct connect, which requires that all of our servers are at the same patch level.

At this point, we do not plan on implementing SP5 on the server sides.
