183 Days until MapPoint Web Service ends. Move to Bing Maps Now!

This just arrived – thought I would pass it along:

Microsoft will consolidate to the Bing Maps Platform and end support for MapPoint Web Service effective November 18, 2011 (that’s just 183 days away)!

Interactive SDK
A new interactive SDK for our AJAX Control 7.0 is now available. This developer resource makes it easy to see Bing Maps features in action and then find the corresponding code and events for use in your application.

Store Locator Templates
We also wanted to highlight two store locator templates that have been developed by Microsoft partners Shoothill and InKnowledge. The templates were specifically designed to make the migration as quick and stress-free as possible. You can view a recent Shoothill webcast about migrating with templates. And for more information on the InKnowledge template, check out this preview video. These wizard-style tools make it easy to get the basics done fast, and allow for more advanced features to be easily added on.

If you are looking for additional help with this transition, we want to make you aware of the expertise, experience, and packaged offerings these Microsoft partners have available to help. Many have special offers for MapPoint customers, so we encourage you to take a look.

And if your internal team is planning to perform the upgrade, here’s a quick reminder:

  • Step 1: Get Your Bing Maps Key
Sign up for a Bing Maps Developer Account, and then register for a key. The process takes about three minutes.
  • Step 2: Get Your Migration Guides
Your MapPoint Web Service Upgrade Portal features a variety of use scenarios and upgrade solutions to help get you the information you need.
  • Step 3: Get Going
As you plan your move, you’ll want to learn more about the newest Bing Maps API-our totally redesigned AJAX Control 7.0. For a full list of what’s new in the AJAX Control 7.0, please visit here.
