My feeling is that this has something to do with the explosion in San Bruno last year, and the failures of the GIS that were noted.
PG&E GIS Analytics is looking to fill an immediate opening for a full-time office-based GIS Specialist position in Walnut Creek. This is a contract position for an initial six month term with the expectation of extending to two years.
Basic responsibilities include GIS data management, spatial analysis and queries, extraction of data for reporting, and preparation of high-quality maps for various gas and electric needs using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (9.x/10.x) software.
This particular GIS Specialist position will focus primarily on providing daily technical, hands-on support to multiple fast-moving gas pipeline engineering and construction workstreams. Tasks will include evaluation and management of numerous spatial data formats, including GPS data, AutoCAD, Google Earth and ESRI/GIS. Working closely with a Senior GIS Analyst, the GIS Specialist will provide GIS support directly to numerous internal PG&E clients, including engineering, Land and Environmental Management, and public/government relations departments.
Other special projects may include spatial data research and creation of workflow documentation and metadata.
The successful candidate will have experience using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (9.x/10.x) software and Google Earth, will be familiar with principles of GIS data development, and will have fluent knowledge of basic GIS theory.
A Bachelor’s degree in geography, environmental science, resource management, city and regional planning, or a similar field is required. Candidate must have with a minimum of five years experience in GIS; a Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
Candidate must be well-organized, have experience in a deadline-driven environment working directly with non-GIS clients, and have excellent communication skills.
