SpotOn acquired by ESRI – their Vantage product integrates ESRI and Cognos

Jim Wilkinson from ISD passed this news along to me.  The County uses SpotOn to integrate our Countywide Business Intelligence (CBI)  Software, Cognos,  with our ESRI GIS software – the CBI has had a license for SpotOn for a while.

Jim’s group will be demonstrating the power of this integration at our coming GIS Day even (click for details).

Here is the information that Jim passed along:

I am excited to announce that SpotOn Systems has been acquired by Esri, Inc.

Esri is the leading Geographic Information System (GIS) software company in the world. Esri’s ArcGIS® software and cloud-based map data are used by thousands of organizations in government, public safety, energy and utilities, insurance, retail, telecommunications, banking, and many more.  Esri currently employs 2,700 people at its corporate headquarters in Redlands, California and 10 regional offices in the United States. Globally, Esri has more than 80 international distributors, and users in more than 150 countries.

The first reaction of most customers will be the obvious question: What does this mean for me?

I want to assure you that your current investment in SpotOn Systems technology remains secure. Customers with current support and maintenance agreements for any SpotOn product, including SpotOn Vantage Maps, SpotOn Vantage Charts, and SpotOn Vantage Gantt will continue to receive support as they do now.  All in-place license agreements remain active and unchanged, and our support team remains intact within Esri.

Why are we doing this? Our acquisition by Esri affords SpotOn the opportunity to grow and improve SpotOn Vantage Maps far more rapidly and deeply than was previously possible. Additionally, SpotOn’s historically strong partnership with IBM is now bolstered by Esri’s premier partnership and 25-year association with IBM.   The strong technical and business relationships of this partnership have led to the spatial-enablement of many IBM products, like Netezza, SPSS, Maximo, DB2, and Informix.  This strong Esri-IBM partnership enhances our ability to support our IBM Cognos customers. Looking ahead, SpotOn Vantage Maps will be enhanced to take full advantage of Esri ArcGIS, bringing spatial analysis fully into the domain of business analytics.

We hope you’re as excited by this new opportunity as we are. We look forward to a continued relationship with you, and working to meet and exceed your location analytic needs.
