GIS Day – Tour of DPW facilities, GIS enabled vehicles

As we count down the hours to GIS Day, there are a couple of unique  ends I wanted to ensure that visitors were aware of.

Tours of DPW Operations

LA County Public Works will be offering tours of its Emergency Operations Center and its Traffic Management Center.  Come see how DPW uses GIS to respond to emergencies and disasters, and how it uses GIS to help manage traffic in the cities it is responsible for.  These are a unique, behind the scenes look at GIS in action!

GIS Enabled Vehicles

We will have at least three vehicles on site that support County operations using GIS.

  1. The LA County Fire Truck responds to incidents, including the Station Fire, to provide on-site mapping support.  It provides critical support for decision makers during large events!
  2. The Sheriff is rolling out mapping into its vehicles, providing officers the ability to see backup units as well as automatically routing them to dispatches, supporting public safety.
  3. The Sheriff Emergency Operations Vehicle is a large trailer that supports Sheriff operations in the middle of major disasters.  This vehicle should be extremely impressive and fun to check out!
