Assessment of Green Infrastructure of LA’s Coastal Zone

tree_canopy_summaryLoyola Marymount University (LMU) recently announced the completion of a tree canopy and land cover assessment of the coastal area of Los Angeles County, in partnership with the University of Vermont Spatial Analysis Lab and Clark University.  At a recent event, a presentation was done of the data analysis, which used high-resolution remote sensing data (imagery and LiDAR) to create fine scale 7-class land cover. These data were then combined with demographic and temperature data to identify potential priority areas where enhanced greening could contribute to increased resilience to climate impacts and more equitable distribution of environmental amenities in the Los Angeles coastal region.

This is interesting to me the County, because we are embarking to doing the same analysis, including the creation of a Land Cover dataset, for the entire County as part of the LAR-IAC program.  The report that LMU has completed shows some of the value of this analysis.
