Little Hoover Commission Report – Regarding GIS in the State of CA

This is from October 2019 – but needs to be posted here as well (this is important stuff).

The full report is linked below, but the THREE key points they came to were:

    • Designate a state Geographic Information Officer
    • Create a GIS Advisory Council of governmental leaders and other stakeholders
    • Use GIS to evaluate regional disparities in funding and the delivery of services

This was posted on SoCal GIS last week as well – click here.

Two important follow-on items to this report:

    1) The California Geographic Information Association, an organization of GIS professionals in California, actively supports these recommendations, see their open letter to Governor Newsom and California legislature at: http://cgia.org/2019/12/cgia-supports-lhcfindings/

    2) This will be a topic of discussion at the State GIS Conference in Long Beach, February 9-11. Consider attending CalGIS 2020 at least on Monday, 2/10 for the fireside chat with State of California CIO, Amy Tong, Special Assistant to the Governor, Mike Wilkening and former Governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley to discuss state level GIS strategy and benefits. See http://www.calgis.org for more info about the conference and registration.
