California Next Generation 9-1-1 GIS Task Force

The California 9-1-1 Branch of the California Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) is embarking on upgrading California’s 9-1-1 System to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1). Through the California 9-1-1 Advisory Board, its Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC) has commissioned the Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) GIS Task Force. (Established: February 2019)

The County of Los Angeles is taking an lead role in facilitating this statewide effort to bridge the gap between the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Professionals at regional Dispatch Centers and GIS Professionals within the 58 Counties of California that can assist with the technical needs of data, collaboration and interoperability.

Developing statewide GIS datasets that will be use as the basis for routing all 9-1-1 calls to their appropriate Dispatching Call Centers is critical. The deliverable of the NG9-1-1 GIS Task Force is to essentially determine the technical and local challenges of maintaining locally sourced GIS spatial data in an statewide dataset, and to function as the guidance for CA 9-1-1 Branch in following the NENA i3 standards and applicable GIS Standards and methods.

CalOES has released an official letter requesting GIS contacts from addressing authorities both at a City and County level throughout the State of California. CA 9-1-1 Branch Notice 2019-02_PSAP GIS Contact Information
